Advertisement Mood Board

For this I put tickets on my advertiser mood board because it seems to be a good link to include possible artists concert tickets especially the artist who the feature article could be on. I think it could attract more readers. I included some fast food branches because they are local to most areas and including free meal deals and discounts of people's favorite food. I also included HMV as it being a CD and record shop. In also included some phone contract brands because most people have a phone and most readers would want to know about latest deals and contracts with the newest smartphone. The other logos are somehow linked to the music industry or just music in general, such as Beats Headphones and Marshall amps.

Music Magazine Industry Analysis

There is a variety of genres of magazines and a whole load of genres within those genres. Taking the music industry there are so many genres of music to talk about and what people like in general. As a whole the UK read a variety of these magazines and the top 5 magazines in the UK are:
5. Radio Times with 454,350 newsstand single copies in 2015.
4. Slimming World Magazine with 496,308 newsstand single copies.
3. Take a Break with 602,674 with newsstand single copies
2. “What’s on TV” with 1,010,798 with newsstand single copies
1. TV Choice with 1,276,045 with newsstand single copies
From this the UK read more reality and people magazines. Also the female target audience magazines such as Slimming World and Take a Break both have high newsstand copies. However there is one music magazine within the top 5.
The top 10 music magazines are:
10. MIXMAG with 12 issues per year.
9. Premium Guitar with 12 issues per year
8. Alternative Press with 12 issues per year
7. DJ with 12 issues per year.
6. Sound on Sound with 12 issues per year
5. NME Special Series with 4 issues per year
4. Billboard with 50 issues per year
3. Variety with 50 issues per year
2. Rolling Stone with 26 issues per year
1. Entertainment weekly with 52 issues per year.

From the results here it shows that there is a small variety of genres of music that the magazine’s cover. These magazines cover a great deal of the world’s most famous musicians and song writers. The majority of popular magazines though is within the pop culture now, with famous pop artists such as Taylor Swift and pop group boyband One Direction. This shows that there are genres of music which are more chosen over other genres. So for people wanting to sell their magazine they would need to be based on a popular genre and on popular people that the general public want to know about.

Questionnaire Summary

For the first question I asked if people read any music magazine, over half of the people who answered said yes they did and the other said they no. This shows that people are interested in music magazines already. For the second question I asked what 3 colours would appeal to people on the front cover of a magazine. It was varied but all people voted white as one of their colours, following up behind was the colour black and joint third were the colour blue and red. Then lastly is green and yellow who only both got 20% of the vote. So from here I can see that the 2 most definite colours that I will use will be black and white. Along with that any colour can go with black and white so it won’t be such a difficult decision to make. The third question that I asked was how much would they pay for a magazine, from the results there is clear winner and that is paying a £1 as it had 60% of the vote. In fact no one would pay nothing and neither would they pay the highest price of £2.50. Only 20% of the people said that they would pay 50p only. For the fourth question I asked them what genre of music do they listen to and 40% said pop and for alternative, rock and indie had 20% of the vote. So it shows that pop culture is more popular to readers. The fifth question was what the reader’s would like within the magazine. Again 60% voted for the upcoming music from artists, shortly after that was the personal life with 20% and then one stated other, saying they would like the all above meaning all these categories are suitable to be put into the magazine. For the sixth question I asked how often they would like the magazine to be produced. 60% said they would like monthly issues of the magazine and 40% wanted either weekly or every fortnight. So from here I can conclude that it would be preferable to do every month. The seventh question asked was if they would be interested in free things within the magazine, and the whole 100% said yes they would be interested in free things within a magazine. So there is no other choice the magazine would be more popular if free things were included. The next question I asked was the age of the people voting and all said that they were 15-19 year olds, so this means this questionnaire was answered by the younger generation. I must take this into account as music magazine readers are not just the young teenagers and older reader purchase music magazines also. The ninth question asked was what the genders of my voters were. It was an equal 40% each for female and male and 20% specified other. This mean that there is a balance of both genders so it isn’t male or female dominated. The final question that I asked was would they like the magazine to be on multi-platform, 40% said yes, 20% said no and 40% said they didn’t care. This shows that it wouldn’t matter to 40% weather the magazine was on multi-platform yet 40% would like it on a multi-platform.

Target Audience Moodboard

For my Target Audience Mood Board I included The typical popular food brands like Starbucks, Dominoes and Coca Cola. This is because these are the brands that are very popular to older teenagers. I also included the popular social media because almost every teenager has some form of account on social media. I included a band called 5 Seconds of Summer as they are an example of a band who are appealing to the teenage generation. I also included some instruments as I want to attract young teenagers who also have a musical ability, there is a higher chance of someone with a musical interest to enjoy my music magazine. I also included some devices that most older teenagers may own or be interested in including x-Box and IPhones. And just to really understand who my audience are I just included a picture of older teenagers from Pinterest and Instagram.
