Advertisement Mood Board

For this I put tickets on my advertiser mood board because it seems to be a good link to include possible artists concert tickets especially the artist who the feature article could be on. I think it could attract more readers. I included some fast food branches because they are local to most areas and including free meal deals and discounts of people's favorite food. I also included HMV as it being a CD and record shop. In also included some phone contract brands because most people have a phone and most readers would want to know about latest deals and contracts with the newest smartphone. The other logos are somehow linked to the music industry or just music in general, such as Beats Headphones and Marshall amps.

There is a variety of genres of magazines and a whole load of genres within those genres. Taking the music industry there are so many genres of music to talk about and what people like in general. As a whole the UK read a variety of these magazines and the top 5 magazines in the UK are:
5. Radio Times with 454,350 newsstand single copies in 2015.

1. Entertainment weekly with 52 issues per year.

From the results here it shows that there is a small variety of genres of music that the magazine’s cover. These magazines cover a great deal of the world’s most famous musicians and song writers. The majority of popular magazines though is within the pop culture now, with famous pop artists such as Taylor Swift and pop group boyband One Direction. This shows that there are genres of music which are more chosen over other genres. So for people wanting to sell their magazine they would need to be based on a popular genre and on popular people that the general public want to know about.

Questionnaire Summary

For the first question I asked if people read any music magazine, over half of the people who answered said yes they did and the other said they no. This shows that people are interested in music magazines already. For the second question I asked what 3 colours would appeal to people on the front cover of a magazine. It was varied but all people voted white as one of their colours, following up behind was the colour black and joint third were the colour blue and red. Then lastly is green and yellow who only both got 20% of the vote. So from here I can see that the 2 most definite colours that I will use will be black and white. Along with that any colour can go with black and white so it won’t be such a difficult decision to make. The third question that I asked was how much would they pay for a magazine, from the results there is clear winner and that is paying a £1 as it had 60% of the vote. In fact no one would pay nothing and neither would they pay the highest price of £2.50. Only 20% of the people said that they would pay 50p only. For the fourth question I asked them what genre of music do they listen to and 40% said pop and for alternative, rock and indie had 20% of the vote. So it shows that pop culture is more popular to readers. The fifth question was what the reader’s would like within the magazine. Again 60% voted for the upcoming music from artists, shortly after that was the personal life with 20% and then one stated other, saying they would like the all above meaning all these categories are suitable to be put into the magazine. For the sixth question I asked how often they would like the magazine to be produced. 60% said they would like monthly issues of the magazine and 40% wanted either weekly or every fortnight. So from here I can conclude that it would be preferable to do every month. The seventh question asked was if they would be interested in free things within the magazine, and the whole 100% said yes they would be interested in free things within a magazine. So there is no other choice the magazine would be more popular if free things were included. The next question I asked was the age of the people voting and all said that they were 15-19 year olds, so this means this questionnaire was answered by the younger generation. I must take this into account as music magazine readers are not just the young teenagers and older reader purchase music magazines also. The ninth question asked was what the genders of my voters were. It was an equal 40% each for female and male and 20% specified other. This mean that there is a balance of both genders so it isn’t male or female dominated. The final question that I asked was would they like the magazine to be on multi-platform, 40% said yes, 20% said no and 40% said they didn’t care. This shows that it wouldn’t matter to 40% weather the magazine was on multi-platform yet 40% would like it on a multi-platform.

Target Audience Moodboard

For my Target Audience Mood Board I included The typical popular food brands like Starbucks, Dominoes and Coca Cola. This is because these are the brands that are very popular to older teenagers. I also included the popular social media because almost every teenager has some form of account on social media. I included a band called 5 Seconds of Summer as they are an example of a band who are appealing to the teenage generation. I also included some instruments as I want to attract young teenagers who also have a musical ability, there is a higher chance of someone with a musical interest to enjoy my music magazine. I also included some devices that most older teenagers may own or be interested in including x-Box and IPhones. And just to really understand who my audience are I just included a picture of older teenagers from Pinterest and Instagram.

College Magazine Analysis RESUBMISSIONS

The font styles are varied and are suitable. This enables to not have a variety and doesn't make the look of the magazine repetitive.  The main header is bold and noticeable, so therefore it is obvious what the actual magazine is about. The main image overlaps the Masthead however, this is not a major issue as it is not a big obstruction which covers the majority of the title. You can still clearly see that the Masthead is "College". The Masthead is in a bright colour orange, which with the white background works in its favour and makes it stand out highly and would grab many people's attention.
The colours used on the cover are fairly varied, from blacks, blues, red and orange. The colours don't go with a specific font either. The variety of colours however I feel like are far too much, and there is no need for such a variety, sticking with 3 colour max is more than enough because it them has a set theme to comply with. If they just stuck with the colours, black and blue along with the hint of orange to fit with the masthead, it would look much better, instead of having these random colours as an extra. If anything it makes the front cover to loud and bit too much.
The main image for the over is different, the image is in black and white with a white background, which wouldn't be a big deal if the model wasn't wearing a white outfit. He blends in too much with the background so the image does not have the same eye-catching effect as say other music magazines and reality magazines do.
Going back to some of the fonts, some are fairly fine and with the harsh white background it is very difficult to read them, for example one of the cover lines on the left, it says "Sexy Summer Style", with is smart alliteration and the sound makes it more appealing, you can barley see if as the font style makes it barely visible, even with the colour being black. However, some of the bolder fonts are on the names of people, which works to grab people's attention. Which is what other magazines do, they have the name is big bold writing and then have a smaller sentence below just to give a rough hint or outline of the feature inside.
There are a large variety of cover lines, which gives a variety of different people to notice, but in addition to this, they are all college or education related. With the inclusion of universities and the latest technology on the market which will assist students with their work. It even has a gossip side to it, right at the bottom of the page it states "Campus Romance", as many reader buy reality magazines because they are interested in other people's business, it allows people access to information they wouldn't necessarily get from word of mouth.

Audience Questionnaire Analysis

From the questionnaire 90% of the people surveyed said that they do not read the school magazine, therefore we can already tell that the product does not work and is not reaching to its target audience. The second question showed us what the best colours to use for the magazine. In conclusion, the most popular colours to use for the magazine are Black, Red, White, Blue and Green. These will be the most appealing colours for the students to have on the magazine. The next question shows that 30% want the magazine out monthly, 20% want it every fortnight and 30% wanted it every term. This shows because we only have 20% a fortnight we are better off to do it monthly. When it came to asking for the price of the magazine 40% said they wouldn’t pay anything for it, 20% said 50p, 12% said 25p and another 12% said £1. This concludes that if we had no extras we could sell the magazine for free as chosen by the fellow students., however, if we had advertisements or added extras the price may have to be considered if the magazine was going to be an ongoing project.  The main topics which were the most popular to have within the magazine were, competitions, music, food, fashion and revision. So, making sure that the magazine includes these main topics many of our target audience will want to buy the product. The next question came back with 95% of the people said yes to free stuff and would be encouraged to buy the magazine knowing that there is free stuff to have. This could mean that there will need to be a small price on the magazine due to the free stuff included inside. The suitable price would have to be around 50p. For the front cover picture, it will need to be based around students work and students themselves. When it comes to the magazine being on a multi-platform, 80% said yes so there would need to be a web link for students so they can access the magazine online as well. For the adverts in the magazine 75% said they would want them, so we would need relevant to the 5 subjects which the magazine will be about, so food for example, there could be an advert for KFC. Finally, people were asked about where will be the best place to distribute the product and most either said both the coffee shop and reception. So, we could distribute the product in both areas to avoid lines and large volumes of people in one area.
