Music Magazine Industry Analysis

There is a variety of genres of magazines and a whole load of genres within those genres. Taking the music industry there are so many genres of music to talk about and what people like in general. As a whole the UK read a variety of these magazines and the top 5 magazines in the UK are:
5. Radio Times with 454,350 newsstand single copies in 2015.
4. Slimming World Magazine with 496,308 newsstand single copies.
3. Take a Break with 602,674 with newsstand single copies
2. “What’s on TV” with 1,010,798 with newsstand single copies
1. TV Choice with 1,276,045 with newsstand single copies
From this the UK read more reality and people magazines. Also the female target audience magazines such as Slimming World and Take a Break both have high newsstand copies. However there is one music magazine within the top 5.
The top 10 music magazines are:
10. MIXMAG with 12 issues per year.
9. Premium Guitar with 12 issues per year
8. Alternative Press with 12 issues per year
7. DJ with 12 issues per year.
6. Sound on Sound with 12 issues per year
5. NME Special Series with 4 issues per year
4. Billboard with 50 issues per year
3. Variety with 50 issues per year
2. Rolling Stone with 26 issues per year
1. Entertainment weekly with 52 issues per year.

From the results here it shows that there is a small variety of genres of music that the magazine’s cover. These magazines cover a great deal of the world’s most famous musicians and song writers. The majority of popular magazines though is within the pop culture now, with famous pop artists such as Taylor Swift and pop group boyband One Direction. This shows that there are genres of music which are more chosen over other genres. So for people wanting to sell their magazine they would need to be based on a popular genre and on popular people that the general public want to know about.
