Evaluation Institution RESUBMISSIONS
Going back to my research on magazine publishers, amongst
them I researched the publishers Bauer. There I discovered that as a company
they publish over 600 magazines and 400 digital. Furthermore they also head of
50 TV and Radio Stations. I checked out the work that they did and what sort of
music magazines that they publish. By doing this I could see whether the type
of magazine genres they publish were either similar or close to what my
magazine genre is. Some of the magazines that they publish are Q, Heat, and
North Sound. These are just few of what Bauer publish.
I consider my magazine would be a good feature for Bauer to
have. My music genre is similar to others which are also published there, but
not so similar that they would be too alike to be published for the same
company. My genre of music is pop culture but aimed towards more mature
teenagers rather than younger early teens. This compared to other target audiences
is very specific, stereotypically all teenagers come under one specific
category of what sort of genre and type of things they are into, however I have
tried to avoid that and break up the section of teens and have my magazine
aimed at older teens. Due to the specific category of my target audience it may
question publishers if there will be a large target audience available, however
due to pop culture’s uprising popularity in the past years it would be a
surprise for it not to have many buyers and readers. This would give a good
advertising pull for the publisher due to the popularity of my chosen genre of
music. In giving the publisher business more advertisement this will draw
attention to other magazines that Bauer publish and vice versa.
When it comes to choosing a more successful larger company,
it comes with it advantages and disadvantages, making me as the creator of the
magazine question whether choosing a smaller and independent business more
successful. The advantages of going to a bigger company is that there can be
more of a chance that there will be more success quicker, it will take less
time for the magazine to become well known due to the more power a company has,
it can get the word around quicker and will have knowledge of how to send it
out to the right people. However a disadvantage could be that, due to it being
a bigger company which publishes other magazines there can be a struggle to get
your own magazine out there when there is already very well-known and popular
magazines which are also published by that very same company too. Also the company
may not want any other magazines to publish due the success of others. There is
the risk of my magazine not being able to get as much publicity as other bigger
names. This is why a smaller company may be able to help because it isn’t so
over run by big names, there can be a balance where my magazine can be
discovered on the same level of other magazines which are also published by
that same company, but saying that the same company may not be as well-known
leading to my magazine not being as successful. This leaves me with the better
option of going for a medium-successful business, this means the magazine won’t
be hidden by the more popular magazine brands but won’t be as hidden and
unnoticed if I was to go with a smaller company.
I also need to remember that my magazine isn’t narrowed to
just be published as a real magazine on the shelves. There is other ways such
as online. The advantages of going online are that there is a guarantee of more
notice and will be exposed to a larger target audience. Many use the internet
every single day which makes it more certain for people to discover it.
I believe that my magazine could be published for a big UK
company, due to its very specific target audience, there isn’t many which have
it aimed at
young people whom don’t have a wide category to fit into, so by specifying it to something clear will have readers more hooked. It will include more things which only other magazine feature slightly. I don’t see many teen pop magazines which don’t have either girly feel towards it or gender specific, unlike mine. This makes it more open to any mature teenager.

Having my magazine published will have the tail of having
sponsors, having the probable possibility of being on different platform,
online and in form of radio. Furthermore there will be more companies wanting
to advertise as a feature in my magazine if it becomes to a certain degree of
popularity. This may overrun my magazine causing it to lose it features and
more just adverts and sponsors to gain more money. Publishers tend to do this
knowing more money will be made if there were more advertisements throughout.
Evaluation Representation RESUBMISSIONS
Media Studies
Evaluation- Representation
My magazine is presented to visibly show who the target audience is for. My target audience is towards teenagers especially females with having the feature article on a female also. In which it includes discussing music careers and related aspects. I have represented the teenage/youth by using mainstream themes and a typical new upcoming teenage singer on the front cover. Young people are very much drawn to that, seeing who is new in the music industry. My target audience is of teenagers whom are into the generic pop culture, which all share the mainstream message and style. It’s aimed at people who feed off other people’s choices, as an example the use of having the fashion extra within the magazine is shown as a good way for other to feed off other people’s style and decisions.
spectrum of colours that I similarly used |
My magazine has enforced that my readers and target audience are interested in what others choose to do, and that they get inspired to copy or mimic what others do. It also referred my readers to be interested in young people whom achieve the music industry and whom inspire young people to follow in similar footsteps. Finally, I had to pin point people who enjoy the art of fashion icons also which is moulded together with music.

Standard Colour Mood Board RESUBMISSIONS
Colour Mood Board
This is a quick standard mood board I created which consists of a fair few variety of dark, bright and bold colours. The whole idea of creating a standard colour mood board was purely to see how each colour could sit together, and when looking at the colours from a distance, how they stand out to one another.
When it comes to thinking about the colour ideas and a specific colour theme for my music magazine, I wanted to have the two standard colours black and white, because both colours sit well over each other and when it came to my questionnaire and audience research they were the most popular colours that my audience wanted to see.
In addition to this, the whole point of a standard mood board was to show the unlimited access to colour for the programme platform in which I am using. I need to consider my colour scheme when it comes to my images that I will be using for my front cover, feature article (DPS) and contents page.

Standard Font Mood Board RESUBMISSION
This is my font mood board. Here I have a whole range of different fonts which vary in size and shape. By creating this I can see which fonts are more sensible to use compared to others. I can see what fonts I can read from a distance and what ones also stand out from the others. I don't want to use a really small an complex font which no one will be able to to make out. The magazine will benefit to have visible fonts to read.
